: : marathon weekend : :

image : :

: : believe it or not, this weekend I am running a 1/2 marathon, that's 13 miles [21 kilometers], for me, about 2 1/2 hours of running. first time I've ever run that far.

there is a reason why I run this race in October, apart from the colorful fall leaves, pumpkins, apple orchards and apple pie that they serve you after the race. the reason is that it is usually cooler around this time of year, 65 degrees or so is common, perfect conditions for long distance running.

not this year. I wouldn't complain any other day, but it is still summer in Boston, with 80 degrees and 80% humidity. perfect for the beach, not for 13 miles of running. so squeeze your thumbs for me tomorrow [Swedish expression for" keeping your fingers crossed"].

have a wonderful long weekend!

This heat will certainly be a factor. I ran my last marathon in 2000 - have now retired in favor of walking and yoga.
My one piece of advice: don't drink anything on race day that you're not used to. Find out what sports drink they're serving at the aid stations. If it's not your brand, bring your own powder.
You'll have a wonderful time and you'll be so proud of yourself!

How wonderful!
I hope you did well -by well I mean you finished because for your first 1/2 marathon I believe that should be the goal + not the time.

Oh, yay for you. I ran my first half in June, it poured rained, the wind blew, thunder and lightening even hail for a bit. But I finished in 2:26. Hope you had a great run.

I would like to subscribe to your blog feed, but can't find the link that usually says something like "subscribe:atom" at the bottom of the page. Do you have it turned off, or am I looking for the wrong thing? Thanks!
